ॐ श्री गणेशाय नम:
Sweet fragrance of flowers, soothing melody of ‘bhajans’, striking chantings of ‘mantras’ and the pleasantly permeating bhakti is what greeted those who entered the PCMC Hall in Pimpri-Chinchwad where the GSB community was celebrating the Ganeshotsav in Pune. It was indeed a unique experience as the devotion with which the celebrations were conducted was to be seen to be believed.
In Pune, the community, under the leadership of nonagenarian Shri. Babu Rao, has been collectively striving to preserve the rich customs and traditions of GSB Community. However, this was for the first time the Pune’s GSB Community as a whole had come together and ventured to jointly celebrate 5 days long Ganeshotsav.
Visit to the utsav hall showed that the celebrations were being conducted strictly according to the shastras with the unique stamp of GSB rituals that included GanaHoma, Ranga Pooja, Mooda Ganapati Seva, Satyanarayana Pooja etc. The daily poojas were led by Edagunji Vedmurthy Shri. Manjunath Vittal Bhat. Sow Mamata Manjunath Bhat ably supported the Pooja preparations by constantly being present near the Pooja arena. Bhajans were led by Rajesh Nayak and team. While there were a number of members of the community joining the Bhajan seva, one of the star Participants of the Bhajan was none other than Pune’s own illustrious Pandit K Upendra Bhat, the pride of the GSB community and a disciple of revered late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Notably all devotees visiting the Hall were provided with break-fast, lunch and dinner all through the 5 days. A team of courteous volunteers always remained present to guide and help the visiting devotees. The celebrations attracted many prominent citizens of Pune.
Behind the successful show of the Ganesh celebrations, are the untiring efforts of a many volunteers who selflessly worked as long as 16 hours during each day of the 5 days long celebrations. They had their day starting at 5 am. The lady volunteers demand a special mention who came forward in huge numbers to lend their hand in running various errands, which includes – bringing flowers from market early in the morning, making flower & Dhruva garlands to adorn the Lord, packing the Prasad to be ready for vitaran, helping in catering related work and serving food & snacks to the devotees, participating in Bhajan program and atharvasheersha paarayans.
We felt the participation from our young girls and boys of community could have been more and we will do a focused drive to facilitate the same next year. We understand that notwithstanding our sincere efforts, there might have been some slip ups here and there. We also might have failed in reaching out to all the Samaj Bandhavas in and around Pune to timely notify them about holding of the Ganesh celebrations. If Samaj bandhavs have anything particular in this regard, please do let us know.
Your suggestions and feedback will be very valuable and will help us in next year in planning the utsav. Please provide your feedback through our website (there is a comment section at the bottom of this page)
The Utsav Organising Committee feels overwhelmed in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to all. We send our pranam to all those who provided support via ‘Tana – Mana – Dhana’ and selflessly toiled to make the GSB Community’s maiden Ganesh celebrations in Pune, a great success. May Lord Ganesha bless all.
